ClearSKY Vision Embraces Sentinel-2C (and 2A!)
2025-04-25

ClearSKY Vision warmly welcomes the European Commission's decision to extend the operational life of Sentinel-2A, which results in three active Sentinel-2 satellites (Sentinel-2A, 2B, and 2C) providing data simultaneously. This decision, made in February 2025, ensures even greater continuity, frequency, and coverage of essential optical Earth observation data. From early March, Sentinel-2A transitioned to its new orbit, allowing the newly launched Sentinel-2C to seamlessly assume its original orbital path, maintaining optimal coverage.
The Impact of Three Sentinel-2 Satellites
At ClearSKY, our commitment to delivering the most up-to-date and cloudless optical imagery remains unchanged. By immediately incorporating
Sentinel-2C data alongside Sentinel-2A and Sentinel-2B, we significantly enhance the frequency and reliability of our data updates.
With three Sentinel-2 satellites operational simultaneously, our cloudless data fusion models now benefit from approximately 50% increased
Sentinel-2 imagery coverage, ensuring faster turnaround, improved temporal resolution, and more robust monitoring capabilities — at no
additional cost for our customers.
As an example, what would previously have been 2-3 days between original Sentinel-2 imagery in an area such as Poland, is now with the addtional Sentinel-2 instead
1-2 days.
ClearSKY Vision continues to monitor future developments closely, as the extension of Sentinel-2A is temporaily and for now, set to retire in a
year. For more information regarding the temporaily extended life of Sentinel-2A,
